Touristic resort situated at 32 km North – West from Sibiu, Paltinis is the highest (1440 m altitude), and the oldest resort in Romania.. It was founded by the Transylvanian Carpathian Society (S.K.V.) in 1894. From the initial nucleus of villas, the resort still preservs Casa turistilor (The House of the Tourists, 1894), Casa medicilor (The House of the Doctors, 1895), Sala Monaco (Monaco Hall, 1898) and another villa, historic monuments. At Schit (Hermitage), near the wooden church, was buried Constantin Noica, the philosopher (1907 – 1987). The house where he spent his last years, Noica House ravels more of his life and work.
