The Romanesque basilica built in the second half of the 13th century has kept only the initial configuration throughtout the years, namely four of the pillars from the central nave and the west tower.

Also the Romanesque tower was almost incorporated in the church because of the the raising of the roof, and the south portal received a Gothic frame. The tower was repaired in 1615 through a donation made by Gabriel Bethlen.

After the last events that damaged the church at the beginning of the 18th century, a broad reconstruction campaign began; the choir and the vestry were replaced with a polygonal apse .
